While Anna Maria Island has plenty of fun things to do for kids and adults alike, few are as universal as eating a good sweet from a bakery. We compiled a list of what we believe are the three best bakeries in Anna Maria Island. Go on the sweet tour and have a treat in them all!
Hometown Desserts
Hometown Desserts began in 2007 on the busy hustle and bustle Pine Avenue area in north Anna Maria Island. In just a few short years, Hometown Desserts turned a tiny operation with a few cakes a week to a major player in the “sweet industry” of the area. You can likely find Hometown Desserts’ custom cakes in many local restaurants. They have built confident and productive relationships with the community.
Instead of running into a Hometown Desserts’ cake somewhere around town, you can order one for yourself. There are two locations you can visit. The first is at 507B on Pine Avenue and the second is in Bradenton at 5120 Manatee Ave. The hours for either location are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily (and closed on Sunday). The Donut Experiment
At the Donut Experiment, you can make your own custom donut. You start with a freshly-made cake donut and you choose how you want to top it. Choose from about 17 different toppings and six different icings. Set up your own crazy concoction. You can mix bacon and glaze, graham cracker and maple icing, or oreo and caramel. You can double-up your toppings or go naked.
And if you don’t feel like making your own, you can always order a specialty donut. The team carries Key lime and Sriracha, alongside a surprise daily special.
You can close your order out with a coffee or espresso. The Donut Experiment began in 2012 right here in Anna Maria Island and has quickly crafted a dedicated local following. The team is actively seeking expansion. You may even find a Donut Experiment in your town soon enough.
Cupcake Delights
We find the name of Cupcake Delights utterly, well, delightful. It is wall to wall and shelf to shelf of tasty and varied cupcakes. You will immediately become captivated by the bright colors and the big open window. Stop by to grab some special arrangements, like the chocolate chip cookie dough, carrot cake, classic cream cheese, and red velvet cupcakes.
The bakery is most well-known for its signature buttercream and cream cheese frostings. They are specially made from scratch with real butter and Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla. The flavoring tastes authentic and substantial, a big step away from a “fake” tasting sweetness present in most big-box cupcakes and sweets.
The small team also bakes for special occasions and events. If you are visiting for a special wedding, anniversary, or birthday, consider a nice local treat. You could also just as easily stock up on cupcakes for the trip and make sure everyone is well taken care of. Choose the whole lot!

Cupcake Delights is known to sell out, so make sure you arrive before the official closing time. They are open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday and Monday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
