Springfest

The first thing you need to know about the Anna Maria Island Art League Festival is Springfest. For 2020, Springfest will be taking place on the island March 7th and 8th for its 32nd year. The festival features 80 professional artists and craft persons from all over the United States and includes a juried draw at the events end to determine the show’s top talent. The event runs daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the City Hall Field in Holmes Beach. Admission and parking are free, so it is strongly encouraged that everyone attends. Springfest will be exhibiting works from a variety of historical and environmental groups who will also be handing out information about their organizations and their causes. Passing up on an event like this would be a serious mistake.

Artists

The Island Art League is always showcasing various works and exhibits from a wide variety of up and coming talent. Each month, the Art League puts on a casual and friendly atmosphere for new exhibits. Often, these exhibits feature members, faculty, students, and regional artists from the surrounding area. Exhibits open on the Friday at 7:30 p.m. and are always free to the public. Exhibits in the past have included the likes of The Black and White Juried Exhibit, which featured a myriad of black and white paintings for the public’s viewing pleasure. It is highly recommended that when visiting the Art League, you must also check out their ongoing exhibits.

Awards

The Island Art League gives out many awards each year. At the Springfest Awards alone, there is plenty of hardware given out. Best of Show is the most prestigious award given out each year. Last year’s winner, Martin Figlinski, won for his exceptional work with specialized oil paintings. Awards of distinction are given out to exceptional local talent from the area. Last year’s winners included Kelly Willamson for ceramics and Tracy Womack for glass jewelry. Lastly, there are plenty of awards given out to all of the children participating in the festival. Without their contributions to the festival, it simply would not be able to continue.
